Directors Cut No.4: Parsnip in a Pear Tree
As proud purveyors of festive spirit, in 2018 announced the launch of our fourth limited edition Director’s Cut: ‘A Parsnip In A Pear Tree’.
This charming and uniquely festive gin took inspiration from the traditional aromas and flavours of Christmas Day; combining the seasonal staple, honey roast parsnip, with the Christmas tree like qualities of juniper and a generous selection of the traditional gin botanicals. After the distillation was completed, spiced pear liqueur was added, resulting in a complex yet reassuring flavour profile.
Adding a liqueur to sweeten the gin is a little unusual, but contrary to many peoples’ beliefs sweetening a gin is really not that strange of an idea at all, in fact gin was a sweet spirit for a lot longer than it has been a dry spirit. Through much of the 18th and 19th century nearly all gin would have had sugar added to it.
Crafted by Portobello Road Gin’s Brand Director, Tom Coates, Director’s Cut No:4 ‘A Parsnip In A Pear Tree’ Gin (47.3% ABV) was created using parsnips sourced from the fruit and veg barrows from London’s most iconic market streets and the gin’s home, Portobello Road Market.
Only 1000 bottles were produced, making it an extra special product for gifting at Christmas or as a unique addition to any discerning drinker’s drinks cabinet.
