Coconut Pink Gin

A ‘Pink Gin’ is simply a mixture of gin and Angostura Bitters which one can order “In or Out”. “In” meaning the bitters tipped into the empty cocktail glass are left in. “Out” means they are thrown away before the drink is poured, leaving just a coating inside the glass.

Like the Gimlet, this drink has naval origins. Angostura Bitters is a useful remedy for sea sickness and an aid to calming the stomach when one is suffering from the type of ailment which often befalls those visiting more exotic climes.

In its traditional form though it is – it must be said – a drink which is somewhat suited to the macho sailor type, especially when made with a 57.1% ABV gin. So we have used coconut water and pure cranberry juice (which is really quite different from the cranberry juice you’re used to in your Cosmopolitans) to stretch it out a little and soften its blow.

35mls Portobello Road Navy Strength Gin

Dash Pure Cranberry Juice

125mls Pure Coconut Water

Sprig of mint

Shake ingredients with ice and pour into a highball glass full of ice which also has a generous rinse of Angostura bitters. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
